Marrakech
Marrakech is known by many names. The Pearl of the South, the Jewel of the South, and the Red City, are just a few of the nicknames that this lively city has been given. You will marvel at how the old lives alongside the new, and at times you will feel as though you have stepped back in time, only to have modern technology bring you back to current times. Marrakech is such a fascinating combination of cultures…Amazigh (Berber), Arab, sub-Saharan African, and Jewish… and each brings its best to this cosmopolitan city.
Your day can begin with a visit to Marjorelle Gardens. Former residence and gardens belonging to fashion designer Yves St. Laurent and his partner, the gardens will delight your senses by merely being in the midst of such natural beauty.
There’s something for everyone in Marrakech. In our big square, Jma el Fna, you will see everything from snake charmers, fortune tellers, and belly dancers to henna artists who will create a unique henna design on your hand. Be sure to have your photo taken with one of the monkeys, who love to entertain. The pulsating beat of Gnawa music is your soundtrack as you navigate through the various stalls that sell fresh orange juice, mint tea, street food, and so much more.
If you’re looking for trendy Marrakech, there are numerous contemporary restaurants and bars that offer Moroccan, French, and Italian, among other cuisines.
Your visit to Marrakech would not be complete without a visit to the souk. There your senses will be awakened to the fragrance of cumin, ginger, and so many other spices…the tap-tap-tap of artisans creating beautiful pieces of woodwork…and the sight of many colorful and artfully designed rugs, created by Moroccan women from various villages.
Like all of Morocco, Marrakech is an experience…not just a destination to visit. We hope that you will join us.
