Aerial sunset view over the medina of Tangier

Gateway to Africa

Tangier

Where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, and Europe is visible across the strait.

Where two continents meet

Discover Tangier

Tangier sits at the very tip of Morocco, where the Strait of Gibraltar separates it from Spain by just a few miles โ€” on a clear day you can see Europe from its hills. It's long had an international, bohemian streak, and its Kasbah and medina reward slow wandering just as much as the bigger cities do.

A great stop if you're arriving by ferry from Spain, or pairing the north of Morocco with Chefchaouen and the Rif.

What We'll See Together

The Kasbah

The old fortified quarter, with sweeping views over the strait and the port.

Cape Spartel

The point where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet, just outside the city.

Hercules Caves

A dramatic sea cave near Cape Spartel, framed in the shape of a map of Africa.

Grand Socco

The lively main square where the medina meets the newer part of the city.

American Legation Museum

The first American public property abroad, and a small window into Tangier's international history.

The Medina

Smaller than Marrakech or Fes, and easy to explore in half a day.
